Redwood II., showing a liking for the heavy going, followed Fargo close up to the stretcli turn, where he took the lead and, finishing fast, won well in hand. Fargo showed the most speed in the early stages, but tired after going, a half and only ran a fairly good race: Pinta lasted well through the stretch. Deuxtemps ran poorly and can do much better. Moutalban, showing his best form and favored by the going, took a winning lead at once, and, keeping It, won as his rider pleased. Livius began slowlv, but closed .1 big cap after going a quarter and finished fast. Fleeting Star tired badly through the stretch run. Afllnitv also tired when hard, driven and can do better. Marion Rose showed a good middle quarter and will improve. Gromoboi was left at the post and only cantered around. High Bear, running in improved form and favored by the going, came fast In the final drive after closing a big gap and, finishing with a rush, would have won In a few more strides. Veto ran well, but tired in the final sixteenth nnd was in the worst going. Piller came from a long way back in the last quarter. Speedmaker tired fast after going a half. The latter ran a good race, closed a big gap and but for going wide into the stretch might have won. Light Wool was a forward contender in the early stages, but bore out on the stretch turn, thereby losing much ground, finished fast and wore down Rothgeb In the closing strides for third place. Rothgeb showed the most early speed, but tired In the stretch. Little Lighter came fast after saving ground into the stretch. Bon Vlvant ran poorly. Scratched 04SC8 Chase, 104. Peter Nathaniel was a forward contender for the first mile, but tired in the final quarter. Athena had scant chance with her poor rider and, better handled, would have been a sharp contender. Murphy fell on after the finish and the mare ran into the stable yards. Always Faithful was distanced after going a half. Scratched 04SS9 Captain Bob, 112. Overweights The Only Way, 1 pound.
