EXPECT ALL RECORDS TO BE BROKEN. Biq Entry List Rollinq In for the Sprinq Handicaps — New York Racinq News. New York, January 8. — lp to four oclock this afternoon fifty seven nominations had lieen received for the Brooklyn Handicap, entries for which closed :it midnight last night. This is considered a big showing for the first day and then- is every indica tion of heavy entries in all the important stakes. Assistant Secretary Smith of the Coney Island Jockey Club is sick and was unable to lie at his office today. No tabulation of the Suburban entris received had been made, but it was announced that the list was a heavy one. The same holds good for Brighton and there will be little surprise if the records for the big handicaps are broken. James B. Haggin still is the heaviest nominator to the Produce Stakes. He has made 2M entries to both the Futurity and the Brighton Produce of 1808. This is an increase from him. For the Hopeful, which closed in November he made 388 nominations. The unpaid forfeit list for 1888 was made public today. It amounts to .*2n.t;oO. or less than three-fourths of one per cent, of the total amount of money distributed to horsemen by associations racing under the jurisdiction of the Jockey Club. Trainer John W. Rogers will leave Saturday or Sunday for Aiken. S. C, to take active charge of the stable of Harry Payne Whitney. Save for the brief visit to the winter training ground at 4he time of the shipment of the establishment, Mr. Rogers has been dividing his time since the close of the season between the Brookdale Farm and his home at Westchester. DArkle is at Billy Garths place in Virginia. Ills being schooled for jumping and Mr. Garth predicts for him a great career as a cross-country racer. Trainer Tom Welsh of the Newcastle Stable will leave next week for California. He expects to put in about six weeks on the coast. W. B. Applegatc, Jr., who has been on a hunting trip since the c]i»se of the meeting at Bennings. will leave for New Orleans shortly. There are only four staldes being wintered at Jamaica. The Bcverwyek Stable, in charge of Ben Beach, is one of them. William Faston, the auctioneer, has gone to England to spend toe winter.
