TENNESSEE EXPECTS SANE LAW. The Tennessee Legislature convened at Nashville Monday and the racing interests of the state scored a victory over the reform element in the election of the speakers of both houses. As Speaker of the Senate. B. !. Tollett was elected, anil as Speaker of tin House. ;. T. Cunningham was chosen on the third ballot. While neither of these gentlemen has made any detailed statement, concerning their views H to racing, it is known that they will oppose any measure intended to abolish the s ort in Ten- nessee. Dispatches from Nashville aw to the effect that a Compromise hi the form of a law c-reilinu a Stale Racing Commission similar !o that in Kentucky is to be expected. It may also come to pass that a limit will lie placed on t lit* number of ctays racing at each track annually. During the past two weeks there have lieen several conferences hot veen representatires of the Tennessee Breeders Asso-i.-.lion and the New Memphis Jockey Club, ami the IW* organizations are working in perfect harmony.
