MORE RAIN AND MUD AT ASCOT PARK. Common Sue and Line of Life Fool the Wiseacres — J. R. Lauqhrey Wins Aqain. Los Angeles. Cal.. January 14. — Another heavy rain left the track sloppy today. The card was probably Hie poorest ot the meeting. There was little lietting. One of those SUSjIIsi angles that seldom bob up came in the fifth race won by Common Sue. Report had it that she was hardly up to a bruising race and consequently her price drifted from 2 1-2 to 1 to 1 to 1, but she gave the lie to the lack of confidence placed in her by taking the load at the harriers rise and won by a length. Line of Life, liecause "f her recent sickness, was not thought much of in the fourth race, but here again the wiseacres were fooled for she won quite handily after assuming an easy lead on the far . turn. 1nder different conditions in the same company she would undoubtedly have boon an odds-on favorite. J. H. Laughrey showed his mettle by winning the third race. He was made a mild favorite, but on recent performances 8 to 5 seemed to be a royal price against him.
