March 22.— The unsightly shacks that a rved rat horse shelter ,jn t below the field baelosure :it Brighton Beach track have all been torn down mid coamawdlooa new stable* are being erected there. Another Improvement that is being made at the Hack by the sea is Is the roadway leading from the railroad nark-- to the entrance, in snai years heavy rains hare made it almost Impossible to get from the trains into the track without wading. All of the low places are being tilled and drains liave been set. On top of the tills will be laid S imler walk. Hie brack i- in Irsl chus eondltkn for this season of the year and the few horses wintered ham have in the past tea days shown some fast moves. The most prominent stable wintering si Brighton hi thai of William Lakeland. The pride of Hie barn. Is ,,; "iti-se. Electioneer. This guod son of Voter and Qoesal is looking exceedingly well and takes to bis light exercises With S relish thai gives promise of bis carrying bis two year old form Into tins year. Last season Lakeland did not send him 1.* the post until the -inly meeting at lus home track. In his first start, after being al st left .tt the |misI. be was just beaten by MeCarter. His net effort was when he ■■hmiil see i to Satvidere la the tunning of the Moutnuk. At Saratoga be was ■gala second In the running of the Flash. On thai Occasion lie was beaten out by Mr. Keanes Peter tun though it was spparenl in the stretch that he was not handled with judgment by Williams, the boy who hail the mount. that campaign brought him to UK Futurity, which lie woi like a truly good horse, from a big band that had earned no small ■seasn I of fume. In that running Lakeland turned ""• tables on the Keene stable, beating out Pope •loan, the last nlly thai ■; rrled the white and blue polka dots. Following the Futurity he won the Autumn Maiden handily, and his last race of the season was n the liathush. where he was badly beaten. It was tl„- ,.|,l. rare of the Itisi in which he did not finish in the money, and was far below his preekms farm. At tin- time there was s.„n criticism ot the manner in which Sham handled the eett, ■ad Wkether Shaw was to blame or not It was surely not his rare. After the Flatbush Fleetioneer was s, tit into retirement as sound and good as he Was the day he was foaled. In all of his seven ra.es as a two year old. Hkrtlsm.ii dfcmtayed a gassesmm and disposition for emulng it the end liat stamped ham as well worth] of i.is 1 m in i iv irtoiy. and his three-year- old ntmmect Is ■ particularly bright one. lie has i hihd out considerably, though s bsg rati hist year. There is every reason to seUere that he will he i one of the Stars of his Hllsmu. merely taking a i Hue 0 what he nas already shown and his present eXI elk B health. rhere Is another thai is galloping nkm«j cleverly I at Brighton in The Picket, winner of the American Berbf o| IMS and the Brooklyn Handicap 0 U64. I Thl old fellow looks well and will rare this season. I unless he should g,, ami.s when the serious work I if 1 1. lining easmueucen. So fur ;is has general health i is concerned, he Will train and there is a chance I that in- will redeem his snowing of last season. i Algle. a bay gelding by Goldcrcst. out of Lena I... is a three-year-old in the Lakeland lot that did not start last season. He has been moving satisfactorily and will have opportunities enough when the season opens. Another three year old is Motleys First. He is ■ l CUestanl colt by Commando, out of that fast mire Motley. Bach a cross should beget rave speed, and there is a chance that this fellow will repay the ri re that has been lavished on him. lie is looking well and has shown enough in his gallons | waranf the prediction that lie may be a whole lot better . than useful when he is sent racing. Mr. Lakeland thinks particularly well of a trio of smart two-year olds and it is probable that one or perhaps all three of them will be seen under silk early in the season. Question Mark, a full brother to Little Km. being by Gohlcrest. out of Hose Ban. is a handsome chestnut cult and he has a nifty way of SUSUff. In the matter of speed there is naturally SOSSC speculation and will be until it is possible to 1 send him along seriously, but he Stores like a good one and is bred to be well worth while. Gold Franc is a chestnut gelding by GoMcrest — Francolin. and l.e is another that should carry the Lakeland colors with credit. lie will probably have his first start at Aqueduct, and in his present con dil ion it should lie t omparativcly easy to have him thoroughly ready. The other one is a Ben Brush, and he bears the most appropriate name of Brasher. He is out of Young Princess ami is also a gelding. He is not as large as the Coldcrest pair, but is a well made horse and moves impressively.
