CaL, April 15.— Kight thousand racegoers left the course with a part suggesting an investigation into the running of the last race this afternoon. The suspicious and inexplicable defeat of Sycamore caused wholesale dissatisfaction ami distrust and monopolized conversation during the homeward journey. Sycamore, by virtue of his recent good performances, was rightfully installed a strong public choice. Fully 0,000 was bet on him at odds of 6 to 5, yet there was no perceptible break in the market. Fischer rode the colt and, notw ilhstanding a good striding start and outside Clear sailing, was unable to keep within hailing distance of the ordinary animal that made the running. During the morning Sycamore, in an exercise gallop, was with difficulty restrained a quarter in 23 seconds, yet he could not make a respectable showing this afternoon. Jockey Graham was also erttlehmd for his ride on May Amelia. Todays card was interesting and the majority of the races were well contested. Only two favorites were successful. Dutiful and St. Francis. Jake Holtmau continued to get in his one or two heavily backed horses a day left at the post. This time Corrignn was the sufferer in the third. Wool Sandals was shipped to Louisville today. The Applegale three-year old will start in the Kentucky Derhy and the Queen City Haudicap. Doubts are entertained regarding the Woolsthor| e colts weight earn ing capacity and the stable lielieves be has a better chance in the haudicap than in the Derby. While getting on a Market street car in Baa Francisco. Ixiokmaker Nelson of the Melbourne Club was robbed of his bankroll. William Dugan. father of Willie, Kddie and Clinton Dugan. died Saturday. He has been suffering for some time with pneumonia. There is a pasaMUty of a match race between Mamie Algid aud Los Angeleuo at four miles for ,000 a side. An attractive card is offered for tomorrow afternoon and with Follie L.. Last Go. Dally; Saiurida. Miss Martha. Avona; Cabin. Nigrette. Hugh M ■■-Cowan; orrigan. Fury. Alma Boy; Entre Nous, Sanfara.
