JOHN L. INGLIS THE VICTIM OF A KICK W. H. Fizers Good Handicap Horse Breaks Down at Louisville and Is Destroyed. Louisville. Ky., May 17. — John L. Inglis, W. H. Fiz.rs four-old bay colt by Giganteum — Bloomer, one of the best handicap horses in the west and a prominent eligible for the Queen City Handicap of .0,000. broke down this morning while being exercised and had to be destroyed. The injury, it is thought, was the direct result of a kick delivered by The Minks last Saturday while at the post for the Clark Handicap. It Is believed that the left knee was fractured at that time, but it did not develop until this morning. Since being kicked, Johu L. Inglis had shown signs of lameness, but it was not considered serious. He was to have worked seven-eighths of a mile this morning, but shortly after breaking from the stand, he faltered and nearly went down. Jockey Minder managed to steady him and save him from falling. The horse struggled on and ran about fifty yards before Minder could pull him up. Blood wis [inuring from the leg, which had snapped Just above the ankle. It was evident that there wm little chance of saving the horse and Dr. Riddle ended his career by shooting him. Owner lizer stated that he had recently turned down an offer of .5 »0 for John L. Inglis made by Nugent Brothers of St. Louis. John L. Inglis was bred at the Rancocas Stud, in New Jersey, and was sold as a yearling to Frank clarkson fee fMO. He was a good racer on any kind of a rack, though not partial to heavy burdens. An.* distance from three quarters to a mile and a sixteenth suited him and from 10K to 112 Baaadi was als.ut the right impost for him. His fastest mile was in l:40g at City Park last winter.
