NOTASULGAS RACING CAREER. Notasnlga has earned lier right to distinction as the best two-year-old filly racing during the first half of 1007, but in holding her at 0,000 it seems that Albert Ilamel has placed too high a ligure on the daughter of The Commoner Touch Not. Were she eligible to such stakes as the Saratoga Special and the Futurity 0,000 would not seem unreasonable, but, unfortunately, Sandy Brown, the Nashville turfman who was her first owner and to whom Ilamel and Brulatier gave ,000 for the filly after she had won her first race at New Orleans, neglected to engage her even fairly well in stakes. Under these conditions 5,000 would seem an eminently good price for her, but she lias returned her owners in stakes and purses nearly three times the amount they gave for lier, ami it is possible that they consider her worth to them as much as they, ask as a racing tool, so from that viewpoint 0,000 is not an extravagant price. Notasnlga has started fourteen times and has been only once unplaced the first time out at City Park, January 12. Her winnings to date are 3,S15. The second time she started Mollie Montrose gave her fourteen pounds and leat her two lengths, though she was coming fast at the end and was cutting down the advantage of the winners long lead at the start so impressively that great predictions were made for her. Her next start was at City Park February 12, when she was a heavily backed favorite and was beaten a nose and a length and a half by Grcshani and Princess Sue. It would be hard to convince a number of persons, chief among them F.dward Corrigan, that jockey W. Mclntyr.e did not deliberately contrive the defeat of Notasnlga in this race. She ran on the outside all the way and made a wide turn entering the stretch, finishing with a belated rush. The next time out J. Daly had the mount and she won, setting a new track record for three and a half furlongs at City Park. It was after this race that Mr. Corrigan preferred charges against jockey Mc-Intyre, asking that bis license be revoked. The matter went to the American Turf Association and nothing ever came of it. However, Mclntyre never rode the lilly afterward and snc Has never run another race like that. Notasnlga made her fifth start in the Martha Washington Stakes at the Fair Grounds February 22, and She was agajn defeated by the fast breaking .Mollie Montrose. This time they each carried 115 pounds and the margin at the end of the half mile in 472, which equaled the track record, was a length and a half. Nicol had not ridden lier before and he made too much use of her in an effort to catch the leader in the first eighth. Notasulgas only other defeat was for the Gaiety Stakes at Belmont Park, June 3. Half Sovereign, to whom she was giving ten pounds beat her a nose, with Frizette, believed to be the best filly in James R. Keenes stable, live lengths away. The time for the fodr and a halt" furlongs over a sloppy track was 51. But she has since turned the tables on Half Sovereign. In the Rosebuds Stakes she gave tlie Belmont filly five pounds and beat her four and a half lengths. She beat Cohort, the second biggest money-winning two-year-old of the year, easily in the Daisy Stakes and she gave Frizette another licking in the Rose Stakes and still another in the Canarsie Stakes. Notasnlga has size and splendid conformation! She has demonstrated her ability to run fast under high weights ana tliough she has never won in the mud, there is no reason to suppose that she has a dislike for such going. She will run in front or come from behind and is generally considered an easy horse to ride. It is to be expected that she will race well over a distance of ground. Here is the record of her nine winning races: Date. Track. Wt. Dist. Time. Vai. Odds.
