Jacobite quickly drew out and made the running under a pull by a wide gap throughout. Bad News broke slowly and was badly outpaced for the first half, but took second place in a cyclonic stretch sprint. Golden West developed unusual early speed and held on gamely. Botanist had no mishaps, ran prominently all the way, but showed signs of quitting in the closing drive. Rlandy was pocketed repeatedly and pulling up, but suddenly came with a whirlwind stretch rush. Rig Ren showed superior early speed, but tired right at the end as if short. Cinchona dropped out on the last turn. The winner waa -entered for ?l,.r.00; no bid. GihmI and Plenty trailed leisurely in the rear for the first mile, then moved up rapidly and disposed of Grandpa, after which he came on and won as his rider pleased. Dr. Keith trailed early and was left far behind when the real racing began but, in a remarkable sprint on the Hat got up for second place in the last stride. Grandpa ran a grand race, made the early running, then engaged in strenuous competition with the favorite, put up a game closing struggle and was unlucky to lose second place. Essex II. was always up and a game contender throughout. Film Flam was going well when he fell. Star Cat, a quick beginner, forged into the lead on the inside, held sway throughout and earned a game victory after being under a sharp drive all through the stretch. Workmaid. shuflleil back on the first turn, closed up rapidly on the lmckstrclch, but was pocketed in the last furlong and could not get up. Chief Hayes, away poorly, steadily Improved his position into a fast going third and was easily best. Nagazam had no mishaps and held a good position nearly all the way, but failed in the closing struggle. DArkle, away badly, closed a big gap and has Improved. Ivanhoo, nearly left, also made up much, ground. I.iimepee succumbed after showing brilliant speed for six furlongs. Thomas Hoy finished well up. Cutter quit at tiie end of live furlongs and ran a bail race. The winner, entered for , was bid up and bought by T. C. .McDowell for ,500. Won driving; second and third the same. Gene Russell established a small lead at the start and made the running throughout, saved ground on the last turn and in the stretch and was lucky to score. Bellwether was reserved too long under a pull within close iiursuit of the pacemaker, went wide on the turn and failed to get up, but finished wearing the winner down. Corncob was well up throughout and a fast going third of the improving sort. Montauk steadily improved his position from an indifferent start. Joe Nealon, under the whip from the start, made mi ground in the middle running, but quit finally and was pulled up and ran poorly today. Glorious Betsy, from a striding start, was taken baek and saved in the early running, but failed to stay. Fashion went moderately well. The winner, entered for ,000, was bid up and bought by S. C. Running Water, patiently reserved just in behind the pacemaker to the last turn, was then sent Into a long and almost instantaneous lead, won eased up and is in grand form. Zienap set the early pace and, after being momentarily headed by Ruby, came again and saved a game, but lucky, second place. Rar-tiary Relic trailed, as usual, and closed up fast in the last half, but went wide on the stretch turn and just failed to get up for second place. Ruby was prominent for over six furlongs, but failed to stay. Woodlanc, from a good start, was in forward pursuit throughout, but never seriously menaced the winner and was finally rased up. Single Stone got away slowly, but closed up rapidly into an easy going third. Masks and Faces was under pressure throughout, could never get up and ran a dull race. Smirker came fast from the rear and so did Ella G. Servile got away poorly and made up considerable ground. Alloy showed superior speed for a half mile and is promising.
