Penarris was well back in the early running and patiently waited with, had the most left after facing tbe gale blowing up the backstretcb and got up in the last stride of a fast closing sprint. Lad of Lang-den maintained close pursuit of the pacemakers for six furlongs and drew out when straightened for home, but succumbed finally after a game effort, Arimo had no mishaps, was skillfully saved in the early - , running and finished well. Dick Finnell was squeezed out at the start and badly outrun for half the journey, closed up rapidly and was gpliig fastest of all at the end. Sewell, excessively used with a heavy wind blowing in bis face, drew out premhtifrely at the half, tired badly at the end and was probably short. Linnepee went well for seven furlongs. Magazine quickly forged into a long lead and held sway, appearing an easy winner until right at the end,, where he suddenly began to tire and only lasted long enough. Number One trailed the early pacemakers and. coming with a belated stretch rush, barely failed to get up, showing surprising improvement. Sanguine followed the pacemaker closely, but quit and sulked in the last half and ran a bad race. Amundsen was pulling up on the far turn and received a peculiar ride. The others were beateu off. Dandelion was skillfully saved for a mile, then drew out quickly when calledupon and appeared :in easy winner in the stretch, but had to be mildly hand ridden to stall off Red Leafschallenge. The latter held a good rear position for half the journey, then moved up rapidly into a cyclonic going second in a grand effort. Miss Crawford was prominent throughout and came through on the inside into a game and fast going third. Cederstrome was an unexpectedly forward contender in the early running and held on gamely in the closing drive. Confederate, saved in the early running, loomed up on the far turn, but suddenly tired. Buttling outbroke and outpaced the- others for a mile before he gave way, was eased up In the last quarter and is extra good. Kercheval, palpably short, showed early speed, ran well up for a mile and was pulled up at the end. Colin broke fast and then proceeded to set a tremendous pace, drew out on the last turn into a long lead when straightened for home, was suddenly challenged midway of the stretch by Chapultcpec.t but drew away quickly and decisively. Chapultepee, away slowly, moved up rapidly and was judiciously reserved lfliind the pacemakers, closed up fast on the last turn, went wide in the stretch and loomed up menacingly and was then taken up into an easy second. Bar None broke well, but dropped back early and was outpaced for the first half, then finished well and was a game third. Monopolist, badly outpaced for live furlongs, liuislied with a great rush. Sir Cleges was well up all the way and finished easing up. Smoker quit at the end of a half mile of an exhaustive effort to keep pace with Colin. Commodore Fontaine was skillfully and patiently reserved Tvilhin striking distance of the leader for a mile and a half, then moved up gradually, caught and passed Grandpa as if he was anchored and drew out and won off. Grandpa made the running for nearly two miles, fenced in nearly bis best form and wa a game second. Coligny led briefly and was taken back and waited with in the middle running, but failed to come o:i with expected reserve speed, is very good and was palpably short. Koidmoore broke well, but was shuffled back on the first turn and met interference on the backstretcb. closed a big gap in tbe last half, but failed to get up in a cyclonic rush. Royal Ben, away badly, closed a big gap to get up in the lirst half and ran in game, but unavailing, pursuit of the winner afterwards, running a superior race. LAmour ran forward ly to the stretch and dropped out. Vendor showed speed for live furlongs. De Reszke ran moderately weil. Blue Book got away very badly and had no chance.
