- 1 M , . - CONDENSED HISTORY OF THE BRIGHTON DERBY. -- V. .; tc. The Brighton Derby is of recent establishment, having first been run in 1901. Its seventh running will take ptace.thls afternoon. It was firsi run at a mile and a half, but in its second and third years it was" a dash of a mile and a quarter. In 1904 it was restored to its present proper distance and, in i brilliant icrformance that year, Ort Wells set the record of the race, his time being the fastest ever recorded in a Derby run in this country.
