LAYING FOR THE LAYERS. On the first afternoon of racing at the empire City track an automobile with five men raced down Riverside Drive at pretty good speed. A bicycle .policeman caught the automobile after a chase. "Youll have to go to the station," he puffed. "Weve just returned from the track and weve got important business," pleaded one of the men. "We didnt think we were going so fast." "Are you bookmakers?" asked the cop. "No, were professional men," said the spokesman. "All right," said the bicycle man. "You can go. But before the afternoon is over I am going to get a bunch of bookmakers. They got all my money once and Im going to get square."
