CONDENSED HISTORY OF THE RUSSET HANDICAP. Being at a mile and a half and over the grass track, the Russet Handicap is an event for the stayers and has usually fallen to noted long-distance runners, Deerslayer, Joe Miller, Prince McClurg, Maid of Harlem, Water Cure, Caiighnawaga, Shorthose and Outcome being notable examples of horses that could piobably have gone four miles as well as any of the old-time celebrities at that style of racing.
