SOME GOOD SPORT AT TORONTO. Toronto, Ont., September 10. An evenly balanced card furnished good contests at Woodbine this afternoon. The finishes in a majority of the events resulted In hard drives. The fields were large;, tlfteen horses going to the post in the September t Steeplechase Stakes. The famous black and yellow sash of the Seagram stable were seen in front for the first time at the meeting, when Merry England captured the opening event, a six furlong daslt for which he was an odds-on favorite. Signor Masnada. who up to a year or so ago, was rated as one of the leading owners and the best gentleman riders In Italy, showed great skill in the steeplechase liere today, which he won with John Dillon. In todays race he laid off the fast pace the first turn of the field, then moved up and. assuming command, raced Lights Out fairly oft" his feet. The stewards today ordered that the steeplechase Jockey P. Holman be kept off the grounds and the latter was escorted to the gate by an officer. A license was refused to steeplechase jockey P. Gallagher. Rome Respess arrived at the course this morning with six horses. Jockeys J. Lee and J. Ferris accompanied the stable. Sobell. who had the mount on Gold Run in the steeplechase, escaped, with a shaking up.
