Wave Crest, away badly on the inside in close quarters and shuttled back repeatedly, closed a tremendous gap in the last half and got up in the last stride in the worst going. Aunt Rose, a keen contender throughout, held on remarkably well in a terrific closing drive. Martha Jane, crowded back early, took to In; outside and made up much ground and finished like a cyclone in a cracking effort. Monfort trailed patiently for a mile and a quarter, then moved up rapidly and momentarily menaced Frank Jill midway of the stretch, but quit very badly right at the end. Superman lacked keen contending speed almost from the start and at the end of a mile and a quarter was soundly beaten.
