AUSTRALIA AGAINST POOLROOMS. i The Premier of New Zealand, replying to a deputation that approached him last month on the betting question, said that the first necessity was to confine betting on racing to the race course itself. He assured them that It was not possible to get through parliament a bill for the suppression of the totalizator, as the pari-mutuel machine is culled In Australasia, where it Is In general use. The government would not attempt that, but the proposals they would Introduce would be -to confine betting to the courses, and prevent the dissemination of racing news by telegraph to the poolrooms.
