PRINCE AHMED BEST IN HANDICAP. Takes Latonia Feature in Fast Time Favorites Successful in Three Events. Cincinnati. O., October 21. Prince Ahmed showed a return of his best form when he won the six furlongs handicap, the feature offering, in almost track record time from a good field. Prince Ahmed and Lens alternated as favorites until near the close, when a steady play on the Ferriss candidate installed him in flu- honored position. He was lucky to get a moving start, which enabled him to assume an early lead and, maintaining the fast and steady pace, won all the way from Avaun-teer. Lens was timidly handled by Shilling, causing him to run far lielow his best form. The showing of Pasadena iu the race was a good one. considering his long rest, and iu future be will be a serious factor, in handicaps. Iu the youngster handicap at. seven furlongs Piukola gained a lluky victory, as Stanley Fay and Lady Martha would have led him home with clear sailing. Minder, on Piukola. appeared to. have resorted to foul tactics in the stretch run when Stanley Fay attempted to come through next the inner rail. but. Lycurgus claim of foul was not allowed, tin! judges being of an- pinion that Lycurgus was lo blame for steering in an opening not sufficiently roomy to enable Stanley Fay to get through without suffering interference. Lady Martha, but for being shufiled back soon after the start, would have won. Four favorites won during the afternoon, but the bookmakers lost heavily by flu? victories of Sister Polly and Piukola. Boss Ward, the longest priced winner of the afternoon, was neglected iu the betting. Merrick, which was claimed aTter his last start by O. C. Baker, trainer for Kd Alvey, and later returned to Milam by Alvey with an explanation that Baker did not have authority to claim the horse, won impressively today. D. Riley was lined 5 by the judges for foul riding in the third race. Coon was slightly cut behind and pulled up bleeding profusely". Jockey Ileidel was taken suddenly ill today and cancelled all his engagements, including those made for tomorrow.
