COMEDIENNE WINS EASILY. DEFEATS GRAZIALLO AND OXFORD FROM START TO FINISH. Muddy Track Racing Continues at Washington with No Prospect of Change i Ardri Repeats Easily. W Washington, D. C. November 21. Owners and trainers ot the horses racing here have given up all hone of having any good weather or anything hut a heavy track. The weather seems to be getting worse, and so is the track. Light rain prevailed during the afternoon and the small crowd was confined to the regulars, but it was a betting crowd, and the seventy-one lookniakers who perambulated around in the rain did a good business. The lirst race brought out fifteen maiden fillies nnd the Holly Stable furnished the winner in Tea Leaf. George Odoni, who trains the filly, thought well of her chances, but her backing was strictly confined to the stable connections. Odoni also started his own filly. Gay Gryselle, but she did not run a race such as a second choice should, although closing up some ground. W. C. Daly appeared to have a chance to win another race today when his filly. Winning Star, finished a close second to Tea Leaf, which Notter had to ride out at the end in a swerving finish. The amateur gentleman rider from Baltimore, Itohcrt Taylor, added to his popularity here by outriding the professional, Mr. Kellcher, in the steeplechase. Guardian II. set the pace, but tired in the stretch and could not withstand the determined challenge of. Yama Christy, which won easily. Spencer Relff finished a distant third, lfob Murphy was a contender in the early running, but became stuck in the mud in landing after a jump and fell back out of all contention. The finish of the third race caused a commotion in the crowd when the judges hung up the number of Baby Willie as the winner and Greeno second. Greeno went under the wire right under the judges stand, while Baby Willie was against the opposite rail. The decision was undoubtedly correct, but the crowd which had backed Greeno heavily was disgruntled. Ardri, on his performance in the mud Monday, was the natural first choice and was well backed to the neglect of all the others with the exception of Truro, which was well liked by some, but not enough to keep his price from receding in the betting. It was a one-horse race, Ardri going into a long lead immediately after the start and winning all the way uncxtended. Braggadocio ran a splendid race. Apple Toddy met with Interference soon after the start, but closed up fast when clear and will improve. Comedienne came back from winning the Columbia Handicap in fine fettle and took the fifth race in a canter. Graziallo caught Oxford with a rush when turning into the stretch and finished an easy second. . P. J. Dwyer sent Bed Friar here in charge of T. McCrecry for the avowed purpose of winning a race or two with his old campaigner and made good iu his lirst start of the meeting, it being Mr. Dwyers first race won this year. Ostrich was favorite again today, but McDaniel spoiled all chance of winning in setting too strenuous a pace. He tired after racing Peter Knight into subjection. Banker in a resolute finish easily took third. George Odom seems to have struck a lucky find in this meeting. He has saddled more winners than any other trainer, and has all of the horses in his charge up to their best form. The open trolley cars arc now the only means of reaching the track, as the Pennsylvania Railroad has discontinued its service, and the crowd today found the service anything but comfortable. Notter and McDaniel divided the riding honors, each riding two winners.
