STARTER DADE WILL HELP OUT. To Act Until Cassidy Arrives Good Jockeys and Horses Preparing. New Orleans, La., November 21. Additional rain precludes the possibility of a good track when the bugle culls the horses to the post for the first race next Saturday at City Park. The new soil which has been added to the track recently has not had a proper chance to be worked in, and the result is that it would have been deep and holding even if rains had not combined to make it so. The problem for acting officials during the period that Messrs. McDowell and Cassidy will be detained at Bcnnlng, was solved this morning by a telegram from starter Dade saying that he would he here for the opening to wield the Hag. Ills acceptance to do the starting will enable Shelly to act as presiding judge and Messrs. Winn and Maginn as associate judges. To overcome the possibility of a stringent money market, it has been officially announced that clearing bouse certificates will be accepted by bookmakers. The bookmakers will, it is said, be enabled to exchange the so-called "scrip" whenever they decide to do so by applying to the financial secretary. It is more than probable that thirty bookmakers will make application to do business on the opening lay, and this number is expected to Increase as the meeting progresses. The betting during the first two weeks will be light, as many of the layers have most of their capital tied up in banks, and the operations will therefore be light until the money market is normal. Several additional horses are added today to the list. Most of the horses that are sick are recent arrivals from New York. The yearling colt that J. II. Baker was bringing here and died en route was by Maddison Anna Bain. Jockeys Mountain and Troxler are among todays arrivals. Both are in good condition and light riding weight. Jockey Nicol is reducing hard and expects to accept engagements at 110 pounds. "Kid" Weller has written here that he intends to arrive for the opening jyid will join the book-making brigade. Several stables arrived this morning, among them a division of the big string which Kdward Corrigan will race here. Mode Nicol and Bush and Riley also sent on their strings from Lexington. This consignment shipped well and all were unloaded iu good condition. Mr. Corrigans stable will be by far the largest one here. In all he will race sixty-eight horses, a majority of them being young ones. Tommy Magee came on with the Corrigan Stable and the minor details of managing this big establishment will fall on his shoulders. There is no regular jockey with the stable. Like many other turfmen Mr. Corrigan has found it more profitable and hotter suited to his interests to select a rider from any one of the few who show good form.
