FAVORITES WIN AT SANTA ANITA. Ormondes Right Fails His Backers All Alone Runs a Fast Race. Los Angeles, Cal., December 11. A somewhat heavy rain Tuesday night rendered the going rather slow today, but .toward the end of the days sport, the soil was drying out fast and should be in good condition tomorrow. The public had almost a field day of it, landing five out of six favorites, all of which were generously supported. The talent hit. upon All Alone as the best thing of the day. The youngster nearly upset all calculations by taking the bit in his mouth while on his way to the post and attempting to run away, but luckily Grand got him under control before he had gone far. He won impressively and should show well here this winter as a three-year-old. Ormondes Right, an old offender, failed to make good for a wise few who backed him for a certainty. He raced encouragingly for a mile and then fell away gradually, finishing an indifferent third. Only twelve books drew in, but were kept busy attending to the improved speculation, although, as yet, the books are somewhat hampered in handling "scrip." It is confidently expected that the sport will be in full and successful swing by the holidays. Up to the present time there are few absentees from the racing enthusiasts of last year.
