Brown Thistle, away fast and favored by the going, took a long lead at once and, maintaining his advantage throughout, won after a slight shaking up in the last furlong. Bellwether, after being in close pursuit of tin? winner for a half, tired in the final drive. Thomas Calhoun ran under restraint in the early stages, but failed to respond to punishment in the final drive. Knighthead was best of the others, but was beaten off. Dr. McCluer, showing suddenly improved form and suffering from much interference in the early stages closed a big gap in the first three-quarters and, coming fast on the last turn, drew into a long lead in the ftretch and won eased up to a canter. Ivanhoe came from a long way back in the last half and finished gamely. Fonsoluca ran well throughout and had no mishaps. Tinker tired in the stretch run. Grenade closed a big gap and finished fast. Prince Fortunatus showed superior early speed and ran a good three-quarters before tiring. Terns Rod showed speed and would have been a sharp factor with good riding, but Hufnagel barely retained his seat in the saddle. Charlatan was caught hi a jam and fell soon after the start. Zipango, running to his best form and well ridden, set a stiff pace from the start, but was headed after going three-quarters and appeared beaten, then stood the final drive gamely and wore down Temaceo in the last seventy yards. Temapeo, showing sudden improvement, moved up steadily from a slow beginning and, wearing down Zipango in the stretch, seemed a certain winner, but tired in the closing drive. Angelus, away in a tangle, had to be hard ridden in the early stages to get into contention and tired after going a half. Marbles quit badly in the stretch. Dew of Dawn was gaining fast at the end. Hig-ginbotham, clear of interference and running to his best form, wore the early leaders down on the stretch turn and came away to win in a canter. Ilawkama, suffering from much interference and almost thrown on the stretch turn, came fast in the stretch when clear and ran in much improved form. Avaunteer was in repeated jams and frequently knocked about, can do much better and had scant chance here. Black Mantilla showed early speed, ran a good race and only tired in the last furlong. Glamor ran fairly well. Ties Joli was knocked back soon after the start. Lady Anne tired after going a half. The winner was t ntered for ,000; no bid. Sister Polly showed the most speed to the stretch and. although liring, stayed well in the stretch drive. Lady Goodrich, stiff and sore, ran with a proppv stride all the way and can do much better.
