MUDDY TRACK AT SANTA ANITA PARK j For First Time During the Meeting Holtman Presents La Gloria with Race. Los Angeles, Cal.. December 2S. As foreshadowed in last nights dispatch, a heavy rain fell during the early hours of the morning, rendering the track muddy. It was really the first time mudlarks had a chance to show their mettle here and in nearly all cases they ran consistently. R. F. Carmans Arlmo, after running two promising races, made good today in the fourth race, a free handicap. He was easily best and ran one of bis good races, showing a clean pair of heels to bis opponents in the stretch. Carman might have won two races had Holtman not made a bad start in the second race, practically presenting the race to La Gloria. Waterbury made up much ground throughout on the winner, but could not overcome his early handicap. W. "Red" Walker broke into the running-up line today, raising First Peep from 5500 to ,200 and then desisting, the filly being retained by her owner. II. T. Griffin was present today, having run down from Oakland. A drop-off of five cccurred among the books, only seventeen answering the roll call. Buxtons peculiar ride on Nadzu is being investigated. He excuses the horses poor showing by claiming Nadzu kept bearing against the inside rail with him, and in this he is corroborated by the patrol judge.
