Sam Barber ran in forward contention throughout and outstayed the others in a hard drive. Rose Cherry set and forced the pace to the last fifty yards and succumbed, but was a game second. Plausible, a prominent contender to the last sixteenth, tired and is still short. St. George Jr. steadily improved his position into a fast going fourth. Mitre, away badly, made up much ground. St. Avon ran within striking distance in nearest pursuit of the flying pacemaker from the start and wore him down in the last stride. Pajaroita opened a big gap and threatened to ,spreadeagle the others, but was kept in the heavy going on the inside throughout, finished tiring and succumbed in the last stride. Balnade, shuffled to the rear in the early running and inadequately ridden, closed a tremendous gap in the middle running, loomed up menacingly in the stretch and just failed to get up in a weak finish. Grace G., after cloe and persistent pursuit, was forced to the extreme outside on the stretch turn by .the leader and inqyeiled on the inside by the same horse through the last furlong and failed to get up. Prejuicio ran forwardly for live furlongs and tired, but was an easy third. Johnny Lyons and Ocean Shore, never dangerous, were well up for half the journey and tired in the stretch. .Tack Nunnally, away slowly on the inside, worked 11 li in the deep going in the first half, hut tired eventually.
