Valjean, off running fast, showed the most speed throughout, easily coming away from Fred Maier in the ■Ml drive and winning eased up. Horace H. closed a gap and, in a sharp last eighth drive, wore Fred Maier down in the closing strides. The latter forced a fast early pace, but failed to stay. High Ormonde finished fast. Thuuder Hill showed some speed. The others were green and improvement may be expected. Scratched — Hampass, 110. Overweights — Fred Maier. 1 pounds; J. W. Furer. 3. Daruma, suddenly improved, was outpaced for the first five furlongs, but moved up gradually in the final quarter and, showing great gameness under the whip, got up in the last stride of a fast finish. Orilene came from far back in the final quarter and. finishing like a shot, just failed to get up. Barbette showed brilliant early speed, but tired badly in the final sixteenth. Royal River finished gamely and close up and the race should improve him. Ouardi finished with a belated rush. Edwin Gum ran a bad race. Kilter ran well to the stretch and tired badiy. Chimney Sweep quit. J. R. Laughrey fell heavily as -the barrier went up. The latter set a fast pace to the stretch and tired. Foncasta and Marpessa ran well, but tired in the last sixteenth. The winner was entered for 00; no bid. Scratched— 72497 Anona. 99. Ida Lytic loved a gap and finished with a rush. Connie M. followed the winner closely to the stretch and tired in the tinal drive. Otwell showed speed. The others were outrun throughout. Overweights — Connie M., 2 pounds.
