HORSES WINTERING NEAR BUFFALO. Buffalo, N. Y.. January 10. — A numlier of horses which are ex|iectcd to bring first money home on the race tracks of the country next summer are wintering in this vicinity, although the laic-i stable of all, owned by J. H. Madigan. the Texas horseman, who is one of the new owners of the Fort Krio race track, was shipped to the Lone Star State some weeks ago. including the Buffalo Derby winner of 10O7. Ellicott. At the Last Aurora track, there are several thoroughbreds, hut it is at Homestead Park, near Lancaster, a suburb of this city, that the liest of the local horses are now located. There Kddie Whelan has Cobmosa. the Sompronius horse which made such a good record at Kenilworth, Toronto ami Montreal last year, winning nine firsts. nine seconds and six thirds, a pretty fair r cord for one performer. Shirley B.. a three -year-old of which Mr. Whelan expects much this year, is also in training there with his stable male. Black Hawk, also a winner last year, and Mr. Whelan states that in his opinion he will prove tiie best three-year-old he ever owned, and he hai had EkaM pretty fair performers. Mr. Whelan is also training Tagane. owned by a couple of Buffalo newspapermen, and he believes she will more than make up for her hard luck of last year. The track where the horses are located is an ideal one for a northern winter track, with warm stables aud big ones, while a good half-mile track is located there. All of Whelans horses are wintering in the best of condition.
