OFF DAY AT NEW ORLEANS. HORSES OF POOR CLASS IN RACES OVER A SLOWLY IMPROVING TRACK. Belle Strome Defeats Miss Strome in the Main Contest of the Day — Jockey Nieol Signs Again with Fred Cook. Tom Holland, a first timer to the barrier, also ran extra well and landed In second place in front of Patriot. The surprise of the race was the performanee of Hammock Boy. which C. T. Brownlield purchased from Mrs. R. W. Walden at private terms before the horses were mil to the post. He was eousidered a logical contender, but got off badly, ran out all the way and liuished in last place. Improved weather and track conditions brought about enjoyable sport, witnessed by a big attendance. Todays program was ordinary. Favorite? took hall of the card. Maie Fletcher, a freipient disappointment, finally broke from the maiden ranks when she took the second after a sharp drive to wear down Donaldo.
