REPORTED DEATH OF "PIKE" BARNES. ™ Shelby Barnes, the former colored jockey, well-known on the turf fifteen years ago as "Pike." is reported to have died at the home of his mother in 1 Columbus. Ohio, last week of consumption. Barnes I lirst won fame when he rode Proctor Knott to i victory in the first Futurity twenty years ago. He was thirty scen years old and a native of Kentucky. He began riding when fourteen years old.
