i FOUR FAVORITES WIN AT SANTA ANITA. ] George S. Davis Runs a Fast Mile — Baron Esher .] and Whidden in Gcod Form. Los Angeles. Cal., January 21. — An ordinance will go into effect here in a few da»vs whhh will pre- i vent the selling of "tips" on the streets of Los 1 Angeles. It is in reality launched at" several mush- , room publications which have gratuitously and m- j sistently traduced tnrfmen and racing here ia l general. One of the attacks was centered against James ml. a quiet, unoffending horseman, and the attack was of a most bate and unjust character. . The periodical that printed the infamous attack was compelled to eat crow, am* ran a most obsequious retraction the following day. Curl threatened to kill the publisher, who departed guickly for parts unknown. W. D. Millard jumped into the selling war loday. running up l.aron Ksher from 91.090 to . :: before he stopped, when the horse was retained by his owner. The racing was featureless today and the eight e.ti liooks again received an awful scorching. r Kcii.icif carried Interlude along at a fast pa, e. which caused the latter to tire badly in the stretch and Reuben won in a canter. Master Lester, which closed up with a whirlwind rush in the last quarter, was away in a tangle and might have won but for early interference. Trallic won the two-year-old race, making a runaway affair of it from start to finsh. He broke fast fioni an inside position and led all the way. Chilla was the nearest follower and was lucky to save second place from the fast coming SilK Hose. Joe Gaitens. the favorite, tired badly in the stretch, but was good enough to beat Royal Stone. Ceo-g. S. Davis ran a fifth of a sit-ond fasier mile than he did when beaten by Pretension the other day. The Sombrero gelding turned the oval today in 1 :.iSl and finished running easily under mild urging. Gallavant was second and Orilene tnird. but there was not a lengths difference l»e-tween the last three horses, as Mark Antony II. was but a head behind Orilene as they went under the wire. P.aYon Esher and Whidden won the fifth and sixth races respectively and their victories made four successful favorites to score this afternoon.
