PEDRO HAS WINNING WAYS. DEMONSTRATES IT CONCLUSIVELY IN FEATURE RACE AT NEW ORLEANS. Lady Souffle Scores for Ellison— Sir Toddington Easily Defeats Ketchemike and Keator — Craftsman Takes a Race. .4 New OliMMi La., February 10.— Todays card as first published was probably tliQ worst of the meeting and was made still worse by the many withdrawals owing to changed track conditions caused by the heavy rains beginning Saturday night and lasting for thirty-six hours, Four of the QMM were run under selling conditions, with a 00 top and bottom clause. Pedro, which lias been showing consistent form of late, won the feature race, for which Tileing was made the favorite. The McCormick representative ■was heavily supported, but. after flattering his liackcrs for nearly seven furlongs by leading under restraint, tired badly in the stretch and allowed Pedro anil Donna to reach the finish in advance of him. The change in riders from Brussel to Matter was thought would work a big improvement iu Keators running, and he was backed to the exclusion of the other starters iu the sixth race despite the persistent rumors of Sir Toddington*s good form. The latter was making his first start in a long time and. going into a long lead at once, won as his rider pleased. Ketchemike. which P. Dunne recently aeipiired. held Keator safe for second place through out. 1.. A. « Vilas ,500 youngster. Ail Hed, was given preference in the opening race, but rau green and failed to finish in tlie money, trafisman gaining tlfst money by a length from Warden, with Intervene third. All Red is one of the best-looking youngsters at the track and will reverse this running witli a little more schooling. C. R. Ellison uncovered a good tiling in his Lady-Souffle, which won the second race from Jo ful l.ady. Workniaid was best of a very bad field in the third nee and Viperine. in the going, had slight difficulty in bailing all the way in the fifth. The elosing raiv went to Sainesaw after a gruelling stretch drive with Adesso. ridden by Notter. The latter claimed foul against the winner, but his protest went unheeded, the judges holding hiiu as much at fault for the interference. W. I.. Lewis, trainer for Q. Hollo, went to Nash ville Saturday, where he was married to Miss May Drake. H. IS. Duryea. who has been spending several we ks in Texas, returned today and will remain lor sonic time before going east. Joseph March, formerly cashier for J-; 1 Austin when he was lxMiking for G. . 15ennett. and lately in the employ of ••Kid" Welter, committed suicide by shooting himself, after mortally wounding his wife. The pair had l een separated for some time and today March sought his wife at her boarding house with a Hear, it is said, of effecting a ree.m-cilliation. Mrs. March is not ex| octed to live.
