NOTES OF THE TURF. If Walter Smith of Kansas City will send bis address to parents, he will have no reason to regret it. They are anxious to see him. A. J. Joyner has leased Fitz-Herbert and Ramble to Perry Belmont and they will represent the latter in the Dinner Stakes at the Washington spring meeting. Trainer Weir has Dr. Gardner in active training for another Excelsior Handicap. Dr. Gardners injured foot, received while training for the Metropolitan Handicap last year, is sound again. Jockey Yorke, who drew a suspension for the rest of the meeting at Tampa, has returned to New Orleans and will help his employer, M. L. Britton. prepare The Shaughraun for the Crescent City Derby. Thursday was Italian day at the Tampa race track. The Italian ambassador to this country, accompanied by the officers and men of the warship Etruria. attended the races. They were received by Governor Broward, of Florida. Trainer John W. Rogers is preparing Sea Wolf for early racing and says the gelding is a sure starter in the Carter Handicap. The winner of last years Swift Stakes is wintering well at the Whitney quarters at Aiken, South Carolina. W. S. Payne, the veteran breeder at Maplewood Stud, last season based the breeding qualities of his entire band of broodmares to Ed Corrigan and he believes everyone of these stud matrons are now in foal. They were bred principally to McGee and Scintillant II. Secretary E. P. Laurence of the Mid-winter Fair race meeting at Tampa has been offered the general managership of the meeting of the Cuban Racing Association at Buena Vista, near Havana, next month.
