WHEN RUBIO WAS SENT OVER TO ENGLAND In 1898 Mr J B Haggln sent a consignment of something more than forty fillies to England whore at auction they realized an average of nearly 900 This led to a shipment of a band of colts in 1899 but although one Convamore sold for 0250 the experiment was not as paying as had been hoped for and shipments to England wore discontinued It was as a member of the band of coltB sent over in 1899 that the recent winner of the Grand Na ¬ tional Steeplechase Rubio landed in England Evi ¬ dently he did not appear attractive to buyers for he was knocked down to the bid of Mr D Pennant for fiften guineas It took a long time for this 75 horse to secure rich revenge for the slight opinion entertained concerning his probabilities when thus offered for sale
