RACING SPOILED BY MANY WITHDRAWALS Close Finishes in Several Races the Only Redeeming Feature Jubilee Outclasses Opponents Washington D C April 2 The heavy rain last night was the cause of the track being in a worse condition for racing this afternoon than on any previous day of the meeting and the heavy track caused all of the horses entered in the handicap but three to be withdrawn All of the fields starting in the subsequent races were small owing to liberal scratchings and the racing was unin ¬ teresting The weather was pleasant and a good sized sportSmoker crowd was present to see the sport Smoker and Banyah were practically even choices in the first race but both were beaten by the only other starter and outsider Giles Smoker should be passed classObdurate up as being a colt of good class Obdurate again demonstrated that she is a good niudruvning filly by making a show of her oppon ¬ ents In the second race and winning in a canter The finish between Nutmeg and Gerald D was x citing and the latter would have been second in a few more strides Servile outgamed Azuro Maid in a hard stretch drive iu the third race and won by a head DArkle the favorite because McCarthy was up finished third far behind the first two Jubilee twoJubilee in the fourth race completely outclassed his opponents and won in a canter never extended Billy extendedBilly B Van after several futile attempts during the meeting finally won this afternoon from G W Langdons unlucky Call Boy which was best but was bumped into defeat by the winner
