TWO THOUSAND GUINEAS AN OPEN RACE Just now there is a little desultory wagering on the Derby the French colt Seasick II figuring nominally as favorite but we shall have a singularly open market on the Derby this season Very open and very interesting too should prove the race for the Two Thousand Guineas which will probably bring out His Majestys Perrier Mr A F Bassets Sir Archibald Mr August Belmonts Norman III Mr D R Brownings Prospector Mr J Byrnes Mercutio Sir Daniel Coopers Petrillo Lord Derbys Bonspell II Mr P P Gllpins Rodney Sir R Wai die Grlffilths Ednam Lord Howard de Waldens Kil carbry Mr Arthur James Lucas Sir R W B Jardlnes Sea King Mr J B Joels Your Majesty Major Loders Green Drake the Duke of Portlands Primer Mr Lionel Robinsons Dalgety Lord Rose berys Lauderdale Mr J B Thorneycrofts St Orodoux Mr Hall Walkers Royal Realm or White Eagle the Duke of Westminsters Vamose and Lord Wolvertons Whyte Melville truly a representative field Upon what happens on the famous Rowley Mile much will depend and we are not likely to see any shortening of the odds on the Derby prior to the great Newmarket race The Two Thousand Guineas appears so very open that It would not sur ¬ prise If the layers opened out on the first of the classic races for there Is every opportunity for a good allround book In recent years however ante post betting on the first of the Guinea races hasbeen almost nil Still there la this season a flneoppor tunlty for an enterprising fielder London Sporting Life
