KENTUCKY RACING SEASON OPENS TODAY Prospects Favorable at Lexington for a Good Track with Good Horses Competing Lexington Ky April 21 Everything seems to be in readiness for the opening of the tendays meeting to be conducted by the Kentucky Racing Association and judging by the numerous racing enthusiasts and turf followers now here and the interest displayed in the sport it should be at tended with more success than any previous meet ¬ ing held in recent years In this city There is an abundance of racing material quartered at the course most of the horses In prime racing con ¬ dition and they should Insure good contests The track during the past few days has been put In excellent condition by the constant use of harrows and rollers and little or no trace remains of the heavy wetting It was subjected to during the past week Some predict that It will be fast when the horses line up at the barrier for the inaugural dash dashTwelve Twelve bookmakers arc expected to be In line tomorrow The ones most likely to quote prices are Oscar Bachman Hnrry Laudeman P A Brady E T Graves Charles Roy Doc Pangritz Fred Cook Phil Bollinger M Boasberg J McLaughlln R Barbee and Steve LHommedieu Should the latter decide to go on it will be his first attempt at bookmaking since being reinstated after being ruled off on complaint of jockey Fisher that LHom medieu had attempted to bribe him to have a horse beaten at Louisville LouisvilleThere There will be little cause to worry over good riders as V Powers J Lee W Ott Troxler T Taylor E Martin Warren Minder Plckens and a host of other promising pigskin artists have sig ¬ nified their intention of accepting mounts during the meeting meetingThere There is a surfeit of younger horses in these parts and the secretary found it necessary on account of the rule limiting fields to twelve start ¬ ers to throw out a halfdozen from the fifth race Those thrown out will be given preference at their next time of entry There were but few arrivals of horses this afternoon the consignment shipped by Edward Corrigan being the principal ones to get in They were in charge of Tommy McGee McGeeSecretary Secretary Letcher is still on the ailing list and will in all probability be confined to his bed for some days William Shelly and George Dillon will be looking after the secretarys end of the business during his Illness IllnessThe The recent rule promulgated by the Kentucky Racing Commission enjoining racing associations li ¬ censed by the commission from allowing the dis ¬ semination of news to poolrooms will be enforced and the distributors of this kind of news will have to resort to the New York fashion of climbing poles and using powerful glasses to procure the necessary information There Is also some talk going the rounds that a censor will be in the telegraph office at the track to prevent the possible conveying of racing information over the wires until a certain time after each race
