VANDERBILTS DERBY COLT ESTEEMED ESTEEMEDMr Mr Vanderbilts Sea Sick II was beaten in tho Prize Eugene Adam at Maisons Laffite near Paris Friday April 10 running second to the fouryearold Blniou The distance was a mile and a quarter and Blnfou with 137 pounds up won by a length Sea Sick II carried 115 Of the race London Sportsman said Although Sea Sick II was beaten yesterday at Maisons Laffitte he was not disgraced for he made a good race of it with Biniou a four yearold which was not far removed from the best of his year In the French Derby for instance M VellPlcards colt ran Mordant to three parts of a length anil won in all last season seven races out of fifteen attempts and was either second or third In the majority of the remainder remainderIn In discussing tins Derby candidates the Sports ¬ mans expert Vigilant said of Mr Vnnderbilts colt Doubts have been expressed as to the likeli ¬ hood of Sea Sick II being sent ov r to run for the Derby but I have the best of reasons for as ¬ serting that they who have accorded support to the son of Elf and Saf Saf may rest easy In their minds for his owner fully Intends that he shall bid for the Blue Riband provided he continues as well as at present for as stated In my last communication arrangements hare already been made for his reception at Epsom He Is In fact expected to arrive about a fortnight before the race in order to give him time to acclimatize and possibly also to become accustomed to the peculiarities of the course My latest Information concerning Sea Sick II is that he is a real good horse better even than is shown by his public form to which I re ¬ ferred in detail quite recently Some Englishmen whose judgment may safely be relied on were among the first to profit by what they have seen of him and have been fortunate in picking up long odds and when the Inevitable French money is thrown on the market I fully expect he will son a shorter price possibly even become absolutely favorite It is within my knowledge that one ardent admirer has been content to accept COO to 100 about him but that of course is an unquotable wager for on Monday an offer of 8500 to 1000 was allowed to pass unheeded It Is not pleasant to contemplate the prospective success of a horse with such a hate ¬ ful name but it can at least be said that Sea Sick H Is the only candidate for Derby honors that has so far this year shown form suggestive of victory for one cannot attach much Importance to the Greenham Stakes performance of Sir Toby at Newbury Thus it may be taken for granted that Sea Sick II all being well will run and run well in the bargain and furthermore that he will stay every yard of the distance
