FINANCIAL SIDE OF SHEEPSHEAD MEETING Some wildbrained person gave some credulous New York scribes the surprising information that the present Sheepshead Bay meeting will net the Coney Island Jockey Club a loss of 250000 Straightaway the doleful news was spread abroad and among others appeared in certain Chicago news ¬ papers As a mater of fact the whole sum of money to IK paid out by the club in stakes and purses Is 231300 Allowing that the expenses of administration will run to 1000 per diem there is 15OO more to add making a total of 240300 as the limit of what the club will expend from beginning to end of its present meeting In the way of recoupment the club has its gate receipts returns from bar restaurant and other privileges and 51 810 in entrance and forfeit fees to guaranteed stakes Instead of losing money the Coney Island Jockey Club will probably more than break even The trouble with many of the New York newspaper men is that they think with their ears
