DOMINION DAY RACING AT WINDSOR A Big Crowd Witnesses Seven Good Races Over a Fast Track Detroit Mich July 1 Today was Dominion Day in Canada and an attractive card was provided by the Windsor IRacing Association for the occasion The program was made up of seven races the fea ¬ ture of which was the Dominion Handicap at one mile which brought together a good field The fields in a majority of the races were evenly matched and four of the finishes were close enough to leave the winner in doubt until the official placing was dis ¬ played In the Dominion Handicap Uncle Toby just succeeded in getting up in time to nose out Glimmer and in the closing race St Ilario and Lajeunesse were so close together that it appeared like a dead heat It was a disastrous day for favorite backers the seven choices being beaten The attendance was again large and speculation brisk Twentyfive layers displayed the odds oddsThe The first disqualification of the meeting came with the running of the opening race which went to Topsy Robinson which beat Royal Onyx out a short head in the closing strides The race was marked by a lot of rough riding Harty on Royal Onyx iKiing the principal offender He repeatedly Inter ¬ fered with the favorite Jane Swift and in the stretch run all but put the latter over the fence Shillings claim of foul against Ilarty was promptly allowed and the change in placing gave second to Redondo and third money to Jane Swift As an additional punishment Harty was suspended for the remainder of the week Frank Lord one of the starters in this race refused to join his field at the barrier and they were sent off without him The further entry of the horse was barrel barrelIn In the fifth race T Koerner who had the mount on the favorite Night Mist was unseated in the run down the backstretch and received a bad fall When picked up the lad was unconscious and he was taken to the hospital It is thought that his injuries are not of a serious nature natureThe The largest field that ever went to the post at Windsor started In the closing race Avhen fifteen horses faced the barrier The field was much too large for the track but fortunately no accident resulted resultedAmong Among todays arrivals was G W Carmack with Plantland and John Walters with George Hendries string Both came from Latonlu William K Phil ¬ lips arrived from Xew York this morning with Fred Cooks string
