COWARDLY PROGRAM FOR BRIGHTON BEACH All Stakes Declared Off and a Cheap Scale of Low Purses Announced New York July 2 President Christopher Fitz ¬ gerald sent out an official notice late Wednesday to the effect that the Brighton Beach Racing Asso ¬ ciation having received consent from more than ninety per cent of the nominators announces the cancellation of the sixteen stakes which were to have 7 en run off during its July meeting Tills means that the Brighton Beach Association will have no stakes tills year The program book for the five days of the opening week commencing July 7 was Issued today It provides for six overnight races per day to which exactly 2800 each day no more and no less is added The purses for the different races which consist of selling condition steeplechases and han ¬ dicaps average 450 to 500 and in two instances amount to 000 and 1000 respectively tbe last named being the added money to the first Saturdays principal feature a handicap at one and a quarter miles named the Trident It is said that no infor ¬ mation pertaining to the races will be permitted to be wired or telephoned from the course during the meeting meetingAt At a meeting of the stewards of the Jockey Club W S Vosburgh was appointed steward to repre ¬ sent the club at the summer meeting of the Brighton Beach Racing Association Schuyler L Parsons was elected a steward to fill the vacancy caused by the death of J H Bradford BradfordPermission Permission was granted the Maryland Jockey Club to give a fourday meeting In conjunction with the United Hunt of Maryland from August 20 to 29 in ¬ clusive Harry J Morris was appointed steward to represent the Jockey Club at the meetiug meetiugTrainers Trainers licenses were sranted o W V Conraii James Murphy and P Coyne CoyneAccording According to 1eports Acting District Attorney Elder will try to bring some race track betting cases before the grand jury if suitable samples can be secured Fred securedFred Burlew and his family sailed unexpectedly for Europe yesterday He Is said to have received a cuhlud offer to train in France and hastened Lis departure on that accouut
