NEW DATE ARRANGEMENTS CONCLUDED Grand Jury Investigation Making Progress Big Race for Saturday New York July 9 At a meeting of the rep ¬ resentatives of the Saratoga and Empire City racing associations and the State Racing Com ¬ mission held at the Brighton Beach track this afternoon it was decided to rearrange their respective racing dates so as to have a conflict of but one day between Saratoga and Em ¬ pire City this season The Saratoga meeting will open July SO and continue until Saturday August 15 thus making the meeting one of fif ¬ teen days duration Empire City will open August 15 and run until August 28 twelve days By tills arrangement Empire City losses four days and Saratoga seven days The agreement was mutual and the Brighton Beach Racing Association offered its track to the Empire City management free of charge with a view to saving the horsemen the extra expense of transportation to the Empire City track General manager Winu on behalf of Em ¬ pire City accepted and the meeting will be run off at Brighton Beach BeachNothing Nothing was said about the short meetings at the Brighton Beach and Yonkers tracks in the fall and it is probable that both will be abandoned and the dates given to Jamaica and Aqueduct The Empire City program provides for the running of one stake each day The big 15000 feature will probably be decided on the opening day in order to give proper eclat to the occasion occasionIt It is announced that the Trident Handicap to he decided here on Saturday will bring out a great field It has already attracted the entry of Prls cillian Hessian Question Mark Frank Gill Run ¬ ning Water Big Chief Old Honesty Gold Lady and Brother Jonathan These horses at a mile and a quarter struggleThe should furnish a great struggle The Kings county grand jury in Brooklyn exam ¬ ined witnesses today as to alleged violations of the new racing law with particular reference to es ¬ tablishing if possible a connection between the betting ring and the racing association Among the witnesses examined were Michael Curry Edward Waugh and Joseph Rydell who are said to be em ¬ ployed as messengers by John G Cavanagh super ¬ intendent of the betting ring What testimony they furnished on that subject could not be ascertained but it was said that indictments would be handed up tomorrow in the county court courtCharles Charles A Hart who was arrested at the Sheeps head Bay track on Monday by deputy sheriffs George A Owen and Charles 1 Kendall for making a dinner bet with Joseph A Noonan was discharged today by police magistrate Tighe in the Brooklyn police court Acting District Attorney Elder made it known that he did not want to prosecute Hart as he regarded the arrest as Illadvised IlladvisedMr Mr Elder intimates plainly that he believes the police and the sheriff are very lax in enforcing the law It is known that Mr Elder has been in communication daily over the longdistance telephone with the governor about the condition of affairs at the face tracks He gives It as his opinion that either the police or the sheriff can suppress betting at the track within five minutes time if they wish to
