LIBERT YITES AFTER SENATOR AGNEW New York July 9 Louis Cardanl the former Republican alderman who is at the head of the Personal Liberty movement in Senator Agnews district received several hundred applications for membership ifrom persons of all political creeds who have not the remotest connection with racing Mr Cardani believes it will be possible to enroll four or five thousand members In the district of the senatorial sponsor of Governor Hughes measures long before voting time next November The Repub ¬ licans of Agnews district regard that able states ¬ mans repudiation of Hughes after his return from the Chicago convention as evidence of a desire to get in the band wagon But the rank and file of Agnews paVty are in favor of racing and they are not disposed to look kindly upon his political pre ¬ tensions tensionsE E W Scheffer a lifelong Republican is aiding the Elks in organizing the Personal Liberty League on Staten Island and he Is getting much help from the Islanders of all political parties
