UNEXPECTED OUTSIDERS WIN AT SEATTLE Seattle Wash July 29 From the standpoint of iform this was the worst day of the season at The Meadows Horses that could he given scant chance on immediate previous performances cut a wide swath in results In this category wore Red ¬ wood II Taylor George Fred Bent and Gigana All of these horses improved with a suddenness that fairly stunned form followers Redwoods ease was looked upon with indulgence as that horse was making his initial attempt here in the colors of William Caiiie who recently acquired him himTaylor Taylor Georges reversal was as much of a sur ¬ prise to Roy Offutt his owner as to the general public Offutt had relinquished second call on jockey Walsh on account of the failure of the boy to ride this horse to orders when running at short odds when last out and when Offutt had a 1000 bet down Today lie bet only 50 to show and with jockey Page up Taylor George made a show of his oppo ¬ nents nentsTrainer Trainer Doss when called upon by the judges for an explanation of the sudden improvement in H R Schaffers Tavora and Fred Bent declared that he could not account lor the failure of these horses to run as they should have the previous time out outGiganas Giganas victory was somewhat in the nature of a fluke as Shirley llossmore seemingly the best thing on the card and held as such in the books received a most injudicious ride at the hands of jockey Gaugel who ran her into exhaustion early after getting off poorly with the result that she tired badly at the end and had nothing left to stall off Giganas closing rush Gigana was excep ¬ tionally well hacked for a longshot going to the post at 10 after having been as good as 40 to 1 1St St Charles Fair Annie and Massa three of the beaten favorites ran creditable races but Aunt Pollv and Belle of Iroquois the other choices that vent down to defeat ran nowhere near expectations and many of the spectators disagreed with the judges over the placing of the horses In the fourth race the finish of which was exceedingly close be ¬ tween Fred Bent and Hasty Agnes There were re ¬ peated calls for fhe awarding of the purse to Hasty Agnes after Fred Bents number had been displayed as the winner and the demonstration assumed alarm ¬ ing proportions but subsided without any serious re ¬ sults sultsConsiderable Considerable excitement was occasioned by a per ¬ sonal encounter in the paddock between William Walker and G Ilardman of San Francisco who figured in a similar affair with J C Nealon at Emeryville last year Walker easily took care of liis husky voung opponent Spectators declare the incident will receive official attention tomorrow William Walker became the owner of Tavora bv the bidding up process after her victory H R hchaf for letting her go at 1000 which was 200 over her entered price Jockey priceJockey W Mclntyre suspended early In the month for rough riding was today restored to good standing
