FORT ERIE STAKES FOR ROYAL ONYX 3 Martin Doyle Defeats Polly Prim Marse Abe Scores Again in a Canter Buffalo X Y August S Track conditions were 1 partially responsible for the small fields that pre ¬ vailed today The secretary had framed conditions with a view to attracting the betterclass horses j now quartered at the course and under favorable conditions would have beeii successful While the Fort Erie Selling Stakes at threequarters was the outstanding feature it brought about a tame con ¬ test Royal Onyx the outsider showing a vastly i superior performance to his previous efforts here winning in a canter from Goes Fast the latter beating Al Muller the favorite Ellicott the only other starter in the event was made the medium of confident backing which was unjustified considering the i oor showing he made being1 a distant trailer throughout throughoutThe The tabled history of the Fort Erie Stakes is as follows Year Winner A Wt Jockey Val Time 1003 Little Boy 3 87 Gilmore 1150 114J 1905 to 1007 in ¬ clusive was seven furlongs furlongsInterest Interest in a racing way mostly centered in the sixth race in which four of the best here met at one mile Polly Prim was at all times the favorite but Martin Doyle The Minks and Dennis Stafford the other starters did not lack support Martin Doyle found track conditions to his liking and going out from the barriers rise to set the pace succeeded in racing Polly Prim into defeat before going three quarters and eventually beat her at the finish by a couple of lengths Dennis Stafford after trailing close up for over a half tired fast and allowed The Minks to take third place On his showing today The Minks Is far from his best form as he was hopelessly outpaced In the early running and wita any opposition from Dennis Stafford would have re ¬ mained a distant last throughout throughoutMarso Marso Abe again showed his superiority by win ¬ ning at threequarters in a common canter after kading all the way Alice was his nearest oppon j cut and finished second Emperor William still shows a lack of preparation but was good enough to take third place from Christmas ChristmasFavorite Favorite backers Ingan the day auspiciously by landing on three winners in succession Keep Mov ing started them off by scoring a lucky victory Marse Abe followed and Gtimbrinus proved much the best in the sticky going and led all the way He was backed to the exclusion of the others in the race Al Muller Belmere Polly Prim and Anneta Ladv were the choices to sustain defeat and allowed the layers to more than offset their earlier losses The showing of Belinore and Anneta Lady was very disappointing to their backers Powers on Belmere showed lack of riding judgment which was mainly responsible for his defeat defeatJ J Butler is showing smart form and is now shar ¬ ing with Powers favoritism among the riders He landed three winners during the afternoon The judges today handed down a ruling that ivill debar Amos Turner from racing any horses at this course excepting in stakes that they may have been en ¬ tered in The ruling is the result of some intem ¬ perate language that Mr Turner used after the running of the stake race last Saturday in which Theo Cook was bcsften by Marse Abe and Michael Angelo Mr Turner was under the impression that the assistant starter had held the colt at the post and gave free vent to his anger The judges fully investigated the matter and found that the colt had in no way been subjected to any interference by the assistant starters while at the barrier In their ruling addressed to Secretary Magiuu the judges in part say We sayWe find absolutely no grounds for the charge e have given Mr Turncy an Opportunity to prove his charges Instead of doing so he has expressed the utmost confidence in the integrity of the starter and his assistants However the proof of his In ¬ temperate language being convincing you will kindly accept no further entries from the stable of Mr Turney Further after a reasonable time has been given to close its jfffairs you will recall all badges issued to the stable and notify Mr Turney that he is denied all training privileges of the course courseThis This ruling is made without prejudice to Mr Turneys existing stake engagements and without prejudice to the acceptance of his entries by airy other racing association but we are determined that we will not tolerate insinuations of fraud or un fairness in connection with racing unless prompt proof furnishedThe of the charge Is furnished The first runup of the meeting came with the closing race when Minot was bid up 500 over his entered price of 400 by F Luzader and retained by the stable with an advance bid bidMyron Myron McIIcnry who has jockey S Flynn under contract will give the rider a long rest in the hone of restoring his nerve Frank nerveFrank Respess has purchased from J W Pugh the twoyearold Scantling Jockey ScantlingJockey powers was in receipt of a telegram yester ¬ day from
