CALIFORNIA RACING NEWS AND GOSSIP GOSSIPSan San Francisco Cal September 20 Hamilton Keene will HIKIII take up the horses he turned out on a ranch near Antioch Cal liefore going to Se ¬ attle The list includes Hod Leaf Mansard Gromo lioi Confederate Chitterlings and a twoyearold by Gold Heels Hed Leaf was one of the main hopes of tiie Keeues last season but she was not at her best bestJ J II MoNames has returned from his Hying trip to Seattle and with him came F Neugent and Sugarteatea two of the Old Ned Stables horses that were campaigned at The Meadows by II A Vtton F Neugent is in such poor condition that MeNames fears that the meeting will be well ad ¬ vanced before this fast sprinter faces the barrier McNames will have only three other horses In his string this winter Konialne Pete Hansen and Sex law Homalnc was taken up recently after having been turned out for more than a year at Canejo Although Homaine is seven years old now McNames believes that he has many good races In him yet and that he will be a frequent winner during the winter The long rest seems to have done the horse much good and he acts like a twoyearold He was fired before he was turned out last summer There are seven Salvado yearlings at Scharetg Com ¬ panys Canejo ranch six colts and one filly but no attempt will be made to train them for racing until the fall of 100 as MeNames who has been very successful with the get of Salvado Iwlteves that they will develop into better horses if allowed to grow and mature during the period when most two yearolds are receiving their first lessons in training There are also five suckling colts and two suckiing fillies by Salvado at the Canejo ranch H ranchH G Bedwells Seattle string is at Emeryville Pajaroita Fireball Silver Stocking Luretta Silber sclnvanz Judge Nelson Gargantua Big Store Von Tromp Los Angeleno Fulletta and Wap made up the consignment J R Laughrey and Sister Fran ¬ ces which were turned out in California for the summer will be taken up immediately and added to the Bedwell horses in training Bedwell would have won more races at Seattle but for the exas ¬ perating frequency with which his horses went wrong wrongW W P Magrane is here from the north and his horses will follow within a day or two His stable consists of IMike Asheim Dorothy Ledgett Carlo Dunbar AftermathAl Alice F and Aftermath Al Farrell trainer for Molera Joseph has put in the summer at Emeryville breaking several year ¬ lings bred at the Molera Joseph ranch in Mon ¬ terey county There are four iu the lot all by Crescendo The most promisin on looks is a chest ¬ nut colt out of Fannie Louise Farrell has high hopes for this youngster and good judges who have viewed him declare that if there isanytlilng in looks Farrell is warranted in his good opinion of the colt A bay filly out of Cassiope has been named Crescide and a chestnut colt out of Emma Collier will bear the name of Ceolfrid A chestnut colt out of Heseda II is as yet unnamed Besides the juveniles Farrell lias in his string The Beau a twoyearold bay gelding by Bathos Ballroom Belle which has never started Bubbling Water and Cloudlight Cloudllght especially shows the Iwnefits of her summer rest and Farrell will be disappointed if she fails to race well the coming winter She is a picture at present and is going along nicely enough iu her preparation to warrant the belief that she will be ready for racing early in the meeting George meetingGeorge Miller is another trainer who has appa ¬ rently spent the summer to good advantage at Em eryville as all the horses that he Is handling for the El Nido Stable of which James Smith is proprietor appear to be in splendid condition Sewell the star of the string is in especially fine shape and is training alone iu a manner suggesting that he will draw down his share of the prizes when the mud comes The leg trouble which compelled his tem ¬ porary retirement last winter has entirely disap ¬ peared Cello Woodlander St Edgar and Onatassa make up the rest of the string but the stable also shelters Orcott which Miller Is training for Eddie Kaufman
