SANTA ANITA TRACK FASTER THAN EVER. The Santa Anita Park track, which proved to be one of the fastest in the country and where records were smashed last winter with such regularity that some doubt was expressed as to the correct measurements of the course until officially verified, is undergoing careful preparation for the coming fall meeting. According to Superintendent Tucker and horsemen competent to judge, records for all distances will be shattered during the coming season. Tho advanced class of horses will have much to do with it, but even selling platers seem to bo able to ruu much faster at Santa Anita than anywhere else. Horsemen who have been nsing the Arcadia track as a training grounds have been complaining that the going is a little hard, but Superintendent Tucker says "one little shower will change everything to suit them. "Tills track is about the finest, yet one of the most peculiar, so far as soil is concerned, in the world," continued Tucker, pointing to the broad expanse of closely packed dirt, lined with its brilliant white fences. "Adobe and loam from the orchards are its principal composites, and in summer, when the ground is baked, the dobe seems to predominate, and makes the going anything but soft. "One little sprinkle and we are able to fix everything right again. A little harrowing and loosening of the soil seems to give the loam a chance again, and then the course becomes as fast as any of them. We will start right In and by Sunday the dicky-legged horses will be as safe as though running in slush."
