CAREER OF SPEEDY PETER STERLING, Ed Trotter fears that he may be obliged to turn out his good horse, Peter Sterling, for an extended period before be will be himself again. The skin disease with which he was affected last winter is still bothering the horse, and Trotter is going along-very cautiously Avith, him. Peter Sterling has proved to be a useful animal diiring the four years of his turf career. As a two-year-old, in 1903, he started in twenty races, was first in six. second in eight and third in three and but three times unplaced, his earnings amounting to ,443. Peter Sterling showed good form as a three-year-old. with six wins, two seconds and four thirds to his credit, being unplaced only once in thirteen starts, winning 1908.sh,330. Two performances of Peter Sterling as a three-year-old are worthy of mention, one that of picking up 127 pounds and running a mile in 1:40s. pulling up to a canter, the other, running a mile and a sixteenth, with 107 pounds up, in l:45g. In 1907 he started in twenty-nine races, showed eight times in front, was second in eleven, third in four and ran unplaced in six. This year he has only started in nine races, finishing second in one. third in another and running outside the money in the other seven. His last start was in August at Seattle, which was probably the last one this year, unless unexpected improvement is noted in the horses condition.
