MADDEN TO REDUCE HIS STABLE. ~ - Will Limit His String to Twenty-Five Horses and Sell the Others. Washington. D. C. April 1."..— John K. Madden has decided to cut his racing stable down to twentv five animals and will offer the remainder, atioiit fifteen in number, for sale, lint not by auction. He is here ami has taken charge of the training of ids big stable, and he brought out a bunch of two-year olds that have a good way of going. The first pair went three furlongs in .ITS and the others, worked in pairs, stepped the half-mile distance In 7i2 and ."i."! -.1-oinls. Fayette, perhaps the most promising three-year old of the season, was out and his move was a remarkably good one. He was permitted to go a mile and a furlong iu lft The gallop sug gested that he is capable of going as far as horses r.ne and he lias a great turn of speed. At this season of the year such a work would be considered a trifle severe had it not been for the ease Willi which he accomplished the task. Madden has announced his intention of sending a few of his horses to Pimlico, but most of them will be reserved for the opening of the Westchester Itacing Association at Belmont Park. Preston Burch worked the horses of the Chelsea Stable smartly. They are intended for Pimlico and all of them are well advanced. The Wrestler, with the lilly. Taboo, for companion, was sent along for six furlongs in 1:22. Simple Honours and Aster dOr galloped a mile in 1:55. The two -year olds by Islington and Golden Maxim, worked three furlongs in 37*. The colts by Broomstick and Kingston were only galloped slowly. Connauglit Ranger was only asked to canter along at a two-minute gait. Court Lady, of the Beverwyck Stable, was galloped for six furlongs in 1 :22. George W. Lebolt was worked a half in 52. and Berkeley, which is coming to form, went a mile in 1:52. The horses of Paul J. Rainey have been showing extremely well of late, anil it is a stable that is sure to make good at the coming meeting. De Mund. as usual, is one of the most impressive horses in training and lie always shows a great turn of speed when under saddle. His task this morning was six fnrlongs in 1:19. It was only a moderate exercise for hiin and he came out of it lighting for his head. He covered the first five furlongs of the work in 1:04. dtlack Bridge and Perseverance, of the jumping string, were sent along together for an easy mile iu 1:52. Both have shown plenty of speed on other occasions and have shown well in tiie field. Kinj iste was galloped along and the two-year-olds that will iiear the Rainey silks were all on the slow side. The animals in J. W. Colts stable are going along exceedingly well. Sal Volatile showed a very smart half in 51. Thistledale was sent a mile in 1 :5T Ironsides was galloped at a two-minute gait. The Pimlico string of .1. W. Colts jumping stable will be shipiied next week, when the Madden lot will go 1.. Baltimore.
