THE SPRING STAKES . ; ; : : Like, several other Sheepshead Bay stakes, the Spring Stakes is run this year as an overnight closing purse, with a view to preserving continuity of running under tire name and its eventual restoration to its former standing as one of the regular closed stakes of the Coney Island Jockey Club. It was first run as far back as 1SSG. when it fell to the invincible Tremont, and since then has fallen to such cracks as Blackburn, Strathmeath, Victory, Waltzer, Firearm, Ethelbert, The Parader, Hurst Park, Ethon and Chapultepec.
