BREEDERS ARE AFTER MORGANATIC. Mare That Was Sold for Proverbial Song Two Years Ago Now in Demand, No sooner had Fitz Herbert won the Suburban Handicap than there began a still hunt on the part of various breeders to locate his dam. The same thing happened when Garry Hermann showed his real form. Investigation shows that in the late fall of 1!X7.- at the Fasig-Tipton sale at Lexington, Ky., Morganatic, the dam of Fitz Herbert the latter then a yearling, had been sold for the paltry sum of 0 to a Mr." Christman, who hailed from western Canada. His precise address Is not known. Needless to say this fortunate purchaser of the now famous broodmare could dispose of her for many tlpies the price she brought at auction. Silk Gown, the dam of Garry Hermann, was never located after that horse attained distinction. She had been sold without a pedigree, however. Among others who would like to become the owner of Morganatic is S. C. llihlreth, owner of Fitz Herbert, llihlrcth has an idea of becoming a breeder anil he says that if he can locate the mare he will make- her owner a substantial offer for her. Morganatic is now seventeen years old and is a typical Kancocas mare in pedigree. .She was bred bv the late Pierre Lorillard and is by Emperor son of Enquirer out of Lassie, by MOrtemer. grand dam Wyandotte, by Leamington out of Nemesis, by Eclipse. Nemesis was the dam of lthadamanthus. that fast horse which laid the foundation of the fortune won on the turf by the Dwyer brothers. The name of Fitz Herbert is considered a happy effort in nomenclature when his full pedigree is considered. His sire, Ettielbert, is now in France, where he may spend the balance of his days. Perry Belmont more than once paid big prices - for good, ready made race horses. He had a good one in Ethelbert a great stayer, very unlucky to have lost the Annual Champion Stakes. Ho won the Brighton Cup in record time, which is still the best performance at the distauce. Friends of Mr. Belmont say that, if Fitz Herbert could have been landed iu France to fulfill his engagement in the Grand Prix last mouth, he would have paid 40,000 for the eolt, which, as a yearling, he let pass out of his hands for a small sum of money. Such is the luck which attends racing. At the same, time that Morganatic was sold for the proverbial song, Dalmatian sold as a suckling to C. Moore for 00. His dam, Ionis, by. Magnetizer lone, previously had been sold to L. Blum for 0 and had 1kcii shipped to Mexico with other bargains that Blum picked up in this country. The record of the same sale shows that More Trouble, a chestnut sister to Fitz Herbert became he nrojierty of Harbison and Co. f 3, an that Yaqui. the dam of Piute, sold to John Lc Mnsonc for 23. Yaqui is now seven- years old and is by Hastings Iroquoise. In the light of Piutes achievements, she should now be worth many times that ligure.
