GLAD TO HAVE RACING CONTINUE. Tulsa Newspaper Acknowledges Benefits That City Has Derived from the Sport. If the Tulsa Daily Democrat, one of the represent-ativenewspaiiers of the city, is to be relied upon as correctly setting fortli the sentiment of the community, Tulsa, Okla., is one locality where a sane and sensible view of racing is entertained and Its financial benefits to the commuuity recognized and acknowledged. Racing has been going on at Tulsa since Julv 12 under the management of P. A. Brady, an old-timer in the sport, who has been connected witli various minor meetings in the southwest this -ar. The Tulsa meeting wa? scheduled to close on Thursday last, but has been extended until July 31 for the benefit of those horsemen who suffered from the disastrous fire In which several horses were destroyed at the Tulsa Fair Grounds, this week. The Democrat comments thusly upon the extension of the .neeting: "The official announcement made by the Fair Association that the summer race meet would be extended until July 31 came as welcome news, not only to the enthusiasts and players of this city, but to tlie business men as well. It has been said by several merchants in several lines of business that their business has doubled in the past ten days since the races have been on. "This is due to the fact that about one thousand owners, jockeys, attaches and race horse followers are making their headquarters here this month and they are spending lots of money. These fellows make money easy and it goes in the same way. Rooming houses are overrun witli guests, the hotels cannot handle the transient trade and restaurants and other- eating houses are kept busy from early, morning until late at night. Every rooming house in the city has gradually added a few cots to its equipment daily until now they are keeping nearly twice as many people as before the races. Restaurants have put on extra help, extended their business: hours and. still, have all they can do. There are other business men who are reaping some benefit from the races. Drug .stores, book stores, confectionery stores and other places where cigars, ice cream and soda water, books and magazines are sold, report hat their business has greatly increased. "Grocers, butchers,- produce and wholesale houses report that restaurants are buying more stuff now than they were two weeks ago, thus increasing their volume of business. The clothiers, gents furnishing stores, dry goods stores, and other similar trades are taking in more money now than they were the first of the month- "The theat6rs, about, eight In number, report full houses and a very -satisfactory business during the race meet. Besides this, the Fair Association is getting back some of the money they have Invested In the race track, the street-car company is recovering what was put into the car line extension, and Krcyers band has had steady work, day and night, for two weeks. All. this is exclusive of the great, number of strangers brought bete by the races and the splendid advertising the city of -Tulsa is getting in papers of consequence, throughout the central states."
