OFFICIALS FOR THE EASTERN TRACKS TRACKSNew New York March 1C Chris Corneiilson will be the Jockey Clubs ollicial clerk of the scales this year it is said on good auth6rity and C II Pettiu gill who filled the position last season In addition to his duties as associate judge will devote his time exclusively to placing the third and fourth horses at the finish of each race C J Fitzgerald the new presiding judge who succeeds the late Clar ¬ ence McDowell will place the first and second horses as usual He has a quick eye knows the various racing colors and is familiar with practically all of the horses in training He is not required to fill any other position at the Jockey Clubs tracks and will therefore be able to concentrate his atten ¬ tion on the running of tiie races from barrier to wire wireMr Mr Pettingill who has been In the stand as asso ¬ ciate judge for many years was unhampered until a year ago when in order to reduce expenses the Jockey Club decided to add the duties of clerk of the scales to Mr Pettingills burden Tlie other ollicials remain the same Mars Cassidy who handled tlie barrier all winter at Juarez Mex will again act as starter Mr Cassidys work on the local tracks last year was excellent J L Iilii will serve again as paddock aud mitrol judge
